GDC Sabbavaram
Government Degree College, Sabbavaram is located in Sabbavaram is a growing semi-urban region expanding itself further into an educational hub. Rightly recognizing the needs of the place, the Government of Andhra Pradesh established our Degree College in the year 2008. Till the starting of this college, the students of lower income group experienced severe hardship for pursuing their higher education. Only a few privileged students could get an opportunity in the leading institutions at Visakhapatnam. The establishment of this college fulfilled the long felt desire of the students who wish to pursue their higher education. The Government established this college with the hard efforts of the people of this land and the local people representatives.
The college started its functioning from September, 2008 and catering the higher educational needs of the students who come from poor socio-economic background. The college’s vision and mission are achieving academic excellence through quality education and to empower the students with high human values and skills required for sustainable livelihood.
The college has been sanctioned with 01 Principal post and 12 Lecturer posts where the qualified and experienced staffs are presently working. The Physical Director Post, Librarian post, Non-teaching posts are due for sanction. One Junior Assistant, One Store Keeper, One Record Assistant and Four Office Subordinates are working on Outsourcing basis. For supporting the student’s services, contingent staff viz., night watch man, scavenger, and sweeper are engaged with college funds.
The college is offering five Under Graduate conventional programmes i.e., B.A (History, Economics, Political Science), B.Com. (General) with sanctioned strength 60 each, B.Sc.(Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), B.Sc(Chemistry, Botany, Zoology) Degree Courses with sanctioned strength 50 each and B.Sc Aqua Culture Technology with sanctioned strength 30 seats affiliated by Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.
Regarding extension activities, the college NSS unit, JKC unit, Computer Lab, Career Guidance Cell, Literary Cell have done their job successfully and produced good results.
The NSS unit actively involved in community oriented outreach programmes. The NSS unit organized a special camp on the concept of Campus Beautification for one week and beautified the campus by planting as many number of plants as possible.
Nearly 10 NSS Volunteers have been selected for the National Integration camps conducted at Bangalore, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh by Govt. of India. Though some our NSS Volunteers got high ranks in AUCET, they secured seats in A.U campus in the department of Chemistry, Politics and Commerce. Our NSS Volunteers participated in the Mega Blood Donation camp conducted in Sabbavaram
Our college got “A” Grade in the recent Academic Audit of Commissioner of Collegiate Education.
The Literary and Cultural cell takes a keen interest in encouraging the students to participate in various competitions in academic and cultural at college level and district level. Some of the students brought shields to the college in this regard.
